Defend The Legacy: A Toolkit for Protecting Black History, Artists And Museums

The "Defend The Legacy" toolkit is an essential resource designed to help Black communities, museums, and advocates preserve significant aspects of American history amid ongoing threats of erasure. Launched in 2026, this toolkit aims to support educational efforts and provide a framework for the 250th anniversary of the United States and the centennial celebration of Black History Month.

Targeting educators, curators, artists, organizers, and students, the toolkit offers innovative strategies to highlight museums and underrepresented Black stories and to promote a deeper understanding of Black history within the broader context of American history.

Support for the creation and development of “Defend The Legacy” has been provided through The Black Genius Foundation’s Strokes of Genius Program.
