Meta came to us with one question:

How can we successfully deliver a VR documentary that celebrates the influence of the African Diaspora on global culture, with a primary focus on Ghana?

Are you familiar with Meta's groundbreaking "Back Home: Ghana" VR project?

This extraordinary three-part series delves into the profound impact of the African Diaspora on global culture, featuring a diverse range of narratives from those who migrated to Ghana during the Afrofuture Music Festival at the end of the year.

NOMMO spearheaded the conceptualization, research, and scripting of the entire series for Meta.

A Three-Part VR Documentary

"Back Home | Ghana" is an incredible documentary series that explores the impact of the African Diaspora on global culture. The series is divided into three parts, with a total runtime of 56 minutes and hosted by Jake Obediango, the Global Youth Ambassador for Diaspora Affairs in the Office of the Ghanaian President.

Part 1:

“Akwaaba (Welcome)”

In the first part, "Akwaaba (Welcome)," VR audiences were transported to the Afrofuture Music Festival in Ghana, where they experienced the mesmerizing performances of artists and learned about their perspectives on Africa. The series also delves into the cultural and economic impact of African minorities in other countries, as well as the history of Ghana and other African countries in their journey towards freedom.

Through interviews with attendees in Ghana, viewers get to experience their feelings about returning to their motherland. They also get to witness electrifying performances by King Promise, Ayra Starr, and Praye as if they were standing on stage with the artists.

Part 3:

“The Return”

The final part, "Our Path Forward," focuses on the groundbreaking concept of "Afrofuturism" and how Ghana is leading the way in art, fashion, and technology. The documentary provides a virtual reality tour of the motherland and showcases the country's rich culture and heritage. Overall, "Back Home | Ghana" is a must-watch for anyone interested in African culture and the impact of the African Diaspora on global culture.
